Vipin – Simandhar’s US CPA aspirant has shared his journey to ace the BEC exam and provided a strategy to make the preparations easy.
I am sharing my journey and the things I have done during my BEC preparation.
Being US CMA and having good experience in core accounting, I did have a good grip on the general and basic concepts, so my focus was on things that were not covered previously in my study or experience.
I started my preparation by going through all the Becker lectures and then solving the skill practice, MCQs, and TBS practice questions diligently, focusing on conceptual understanding. It’s absolutely fine to get the questions incorrect on the first try, and it’s the most important part where we have an opportunity to learn and understand the concept.
There will also be scenarios where our method of solving the question may be quicker than the suggested solution, and it will help a lot during the actual exam to save time.
For Task-Based simulations, the approach should be slow and one step at a time. Do not panic looking at the number of exhibits and try to spend a good time reading the question and exhibits by paying attention to the minute details. Sometimes the solution will be too simple!
For the Written Communication section, writing skills are important (email writing skills certainly help here) and presenting the memo in the suggested format by Becker Skillmaster videos. Keywords related to the topic explained and proper punctuation and grammar are of utmost importance as per my experience.
